VACUHO Graduate Student Mentorship Program!

VACUHO (Virginia Association of College and University Housing Officers) would like to invite you to join in our Graduate Student Mentorship Program!

Many graduate students rely on summer internships to learn about new higher education departments. For some, the ACUHO-I internship is popular, giving students the opportunity to learn about housing. Due to the current situation, a large number of summer internships have been canceled. However, the opportunity for graduate students to engage with housing professionals can still continue! This mentorship program opportunity will be a chance to build networks between housing professionals and graduate students across the state.

Any graduate student interested in learning more about housing or connecting with a housing professional, is invited to sign up as mentees. Recent graduates are welcome to sign up too. Professionals with all levels of experience and housing-related fields are welcome to sign up as a mentor.

Graduate students and professionals interested in the mentorship pairing should complete this google form. Sign-ups are due no later than June 5th, 2020.

Outlined Time Commitments

Mentor/mentee pairings will be made based on common interests. After sign-ups close, mentors and mentees will be introduced to each other via email by June 12th. Mentors and mentees will be expected to have at least 4 meetings, however, they are welcome to meet more frequently. Topics will be provided to mentors and mentees for each meeting so they have a place to start.

There will be a large group meeting after mentee/mentor introductions are made to touch base with everyone. There will be two separate meetings, one for the mentors and one for the mentees. This will allow people to share their experiences and stay on the same page. The dates and times of these will be based on participant availability and scheduled at a later date.

I’m excited about this opportunity to increase graduate student and housing professional engagement!
