Health Sciences Academic Advisor

Advise freshmen, sophomores, and transfer students. Understand and effectively communicate major curricula for all health sciences majors including specific major and course requirements, program admissions requirements, sequencing of courses for maximizing GPA, campus resources, and potential for acceptance into highly selective health sciences majors. Monitor and track students’ academic performance. Record counseling log notes in advising management system and DegreeWorks software immediately after advising sessions with 100% accuracy. Advise for parallel planning to facilitate retention of students who are not competitive for intended major. Discuss alternative majors and career goals if not accepted into students’ first choice health sciences major, refer to appropriate advisor for alternate major or to Center for Major Exploration. Provide individualized outreach to students in academic difficulty. Adhere to all office policies and procedures as specified by Director of Advising. Answer questions of current and prospective students and parents via phone, email, or walk-ins; refer individuals to appropriate staff and offices within academic units and the University. Present or co-present New Student Orientation during the summer and midyear; advise students regarding course selection and registration. Programming for health sciences intended students to provide resources for academic success and majors related experience. Teaching or co-teaching up to four sections of the 1 credit HLTH 101: Introduction to Health Professions. Development of course learning objectives, grading assignments, coordinating guest speakers. Some evening programming for Living Learning Communities. Presenting or co-presenting at University Open Houses, college fairs, majors’ fairs, Admitted Students Day, Family weekend, Scholars Day, and other events is expected. Requires up to 7 Saturdays per year.

Job Description Summary: The Applied Learning Program Director leads the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of Applied Learning Experiences (ALEs) across the university. This hybrid role is responsible for advancing the integration of ALEs into academic and co-curricular programs, supporting faculty and staff in implementing high-impact practices, and ensuring ALEs contribute meaningfully to student learning and institutional goals. The Director collaborates with assessment personnel, manages communication efforts, and supports the long-term sustainability of the ALE initiative—guiding its implementation and growth as an enduring component of the university’s educational mission.
