For anyone interested in researching students – this institute is something to consider. NCES provides multiple student-specific data sets.
It is open to Faculty, Students (and others). Mostly faculty and students (graduate) participate.
The purpose of the institute is to: give an intensive introduction to National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) datasets and research methodologies. The emphasis is on the data (methods matter too). But, the main emphasis is on the data that NCES provides.
The institute has been in operation for around 20 years now. It has grown and changed a lot over the years. Currently it consists of:
- Approximately a month of online course (self-guided).
- A semester (about four months) of mentor-guided research.
- The research component is group-based.
- There is no cost to participants for this – but participation is competitive.
Applications are open now, and due by October 26. For more information, visit https://www.airweb.org/collaborate-learn/professional-development-training/courses-workshops/nces-data-institute.
