Dr. Laura Smithers has a new publication in the journal About Campus. Her article, Every Optimization Is a Policy Failure: The Catch (and Release) of Student Success, uses Florida Atlantic University as a case study of the impasse created by the pursuit of student success as institutional and individual optimization. She takes inspiration from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s policy advisor’s Twitter handle (@danriffle – Every Billionaire Is A Policy Failure) to situate the current state of student success practice and imagine new ways forward.
