The Graduate School is beginning its preparations for ODU’s 4th annual 3-Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition. ODU is committed to continuing the competition, making adjustments to how we present to an audience as necessary. 3MT is a fantastic opportunity to practice distilling your work in a short and compelling presentation to a non-specialist audience. EFL faculty encourage all interested students to participate!
ODU provides workshops to students who may be interested in competing. To compete next February, you must be finishing the graduate degree (master’s or doctorate) in fall 2020, spring 2021, or summer 2021. The 3MT is usually based on the thesis or dissertation; per competition rules, only students completing theses or dissertations are eligible.
There are two introductory sessions next week. The 1st and 2nd place winners from last year will be on hand to answer questions. Their winning 3MT videos will be played. The Graduate School will discuss the rules of the competition and other requirements, particularly changes that have been made due to COVID. They will also provide a general training schedule to prepare for next February if you wish to compete. (If you cannot attend either of these first meetings you may still compete – there will be opportunities to get involved and begin practicing this fall.)
If you have questions about 3MT, contact Associate Dean Bryan Porter at bporter@odu.edu.
