New Publication: Dr. Smithers on alternatives to studying the value of college through impact

head shot - Dr. Laura Smithers

Dr. Laura Smithers has a new publication in Philosophy and Theory in Higher Education. The article, Reconceptualizing College Impact Studies Through a Fractal Assemblage Theory, begins with the assertion that college impact studies, common sense of higher education research for more than a generation, have become entangled with the production of the neoliberal university. This article explores a fractal assemblage theory as an alternative theorization of student change on campus. Where college impact research aims to channel students to predetermined outcomes, assemblage theory research aims to create student futures in excess of our imaginations.
