FOUN 870: Formative Assessment in Education course offered this summer

Dr. Linda Bol will be teaching FOUN 870 Formative Assessment In Education this summer! This course should be of interest to any student who will be involved in grading, evaluating,  or giving feedback.

Summer 2020: Mondays (5/18 to 8/7) 5:30 pm – 9:20 pm

Educators in various leadership and instructional roles need strong skills and knowledge in contemporary assessment of student learning. This course addresses a wide range of student assessment topics which makes connections among assessment practices, self-regulated learning, motivation, feedback, and engagement at the classroom, school, district or other organizational l levels.

Course goals include an understanding:

1. that assessment can serve the purposes of teaching as well as evaluating learners; 2. that assessment fosters learning via feedback;
3. that feedback must be ongoing, constructive, and tied to a process of thoughtful revision;
4. that teachers, peers, and learners themselves can be useful sources of feedback under the right conditions;
5. the qualities of effective, developmentally appropriate, valid, and reliable assessments.
