head shot - Dr. Laura Smithers

Dr. Asilia Franklin-Phipps (SUNY-New Paltz) and Dr. Laura Smithers have a new publication in the journal Educational Philosophy and Theory. Their article, Queer Black Adolescence, the Impasse, and the Pedagogy of Cinema utilizes the critical posthumanities as theoretical framework and methodology, and the films Moonlight and Pariah as well as texts from Black studies and queer theory as data. These are brought together to explore ways in which cinema can expand the possible horizons of queer Black youth.
