Internship/Practicum: Career Consultant, Career Development Services

CDS Practicum Career Consultant (Batten College of Engineering and Technology) 

Career Development Services 

CDS Practicum Career Consultant will provide support for students’ seeking career assistance, by providing a communication link between the students, and the Career Development Services. The Practicum Career Consultant will assist CDS staff through career coaching (reviewing resumes and cover letters, providing mock interviews, etc.), marketing and outreach, and special projects (such as career and internship fairs, employer recruitment events, classroom assignments, workshops, etc.). Students in this role may also be asked to assist staff in preparation of reports, maintaining and updating the student database, and serving as a representative of the CDS with other staff members. 

Tasks will primarily be completed remotely throughout the Spring 2021 semester. The only in-person event is the Career & Internship Fair, and involvement in-person can be discussed with the supervisor. 

Requirements: 

  • • Access to a computer and wi-fi 
  • • Knowledge of Zoom, Careers4Monarchs, Calendly, and Microsoft Teams (included in training) 
  • • Utilize MyNextMove and O*Net with students (included in training) 

May include, but are not limited to: 

  • • Work one on one with students in an educator role to coach students on career related issues – resume review, cover letter review, mock interviews, and orientation to CDS services 
  • • Have impactful conversations with students/alumni regarding career development, job search strategies and professionalism 
  • • Become familiar with Careers4Monarchs database, the CDS website, and other career tools 
  • • Make appropriate referrals to CDS and campus resources 
  • • Maintain and generate reports using CDS systems and MS Office applications to track and monitor student participation and activities 
  • • Participate in the programs specific to the needs of our student populations 
  • • Represent the CDS at campus events – information tables, open houses, Career Fairs, etc. 
  • • Maintain scheduled office hours during the fall and spring semester 

Expectations 

1. Career Coaching 

  • • Review resumes and cover letters 
  • • Have impactful conversations with their students/alumni regarding career development, job search strategies and professionalism 
  • • Serve as a role model for successful career exploration and preparation 
  • • Become familiar with Careers4Monarchs database, the CDS website and other career tools 
  • • Make appropriate referrals to CDS and campus resources 

2. Outreach and Education 

  • • Represent CDS at career fairs and other events 
  • • Participate in marketing and promotion of CDS events and services 

3. Projects and Programming 

  • • Assist CDS staff with ongoing programs/projects/events and classroom workshops/integration (i.e., resume review due for classes)
